The Unsolved Disappearance of Rhys Pocan: A Wisconsin Mystery with Chilling Twists
MILWAUKEE, Wis. — In the early hours of August 10, 1989, 35-year-old Rhys Pocan, a mother of four, was last seen walking along National Avenue on Milwaukee’s south side. A member of the Menominee Tribe, Pocan was known in her community for her warmth and dedication to her family.
Weeks later, on September 2, hunters in Vernon Marsh, located in Waukesha County, discovered human remains. The remains were identified as Pocan’s head and hands. Subsequent investigations led to the discovery of her torso in Nichols Creek, Sheboygan County. The dismemberment of her body indicated a violent and deliberate act.
Despite extensive efforts by law enforcement, the case remains unsolved. The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office continues to seek information from the public. Detective Nathan Hatch, assigned to the case, urges anyone with knowledge to come forward.
The murder of Rhys Pocan has left a lasting impact on her family and the community. Her daughter, Charlee Russ, was just eight years old at the time of her mother’s disappearance. Now an adult, Charlee continues to seek justice for her mother. In a recent interview, she expressed the enduring pain of losing her mother in such a violent manner and the hope that someone will provide the information needed to bring closure to the case.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information to contact Detective Nathan Hatch at 920-459-3135 or email [email protected]. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
As the investigation continues, the community remains hopeful that justice will be served and that the memory of Rhys Pocan will be honored.
