5 Points Intersection Construction Resumes

Updated: Oct 3

JANESVILLE — Construction work has resumed this week at the 5 Points intersection,

ree

where Milton Avenue, Center Avenue, and Court Street converge. Crews are installing storm sewer lines under the railroad tracks after a brief pause in the project.

The intersection has long been a traffic pinch point, with frequent backups during morning and evening commutes. City officials say the current phase is critical for replacing decades-old underground utilities and preparing for upcoming road improvements.

What’s Happening

  • Crews are performing excavation and trenching under the rail crossing, with concrete work expected to follow.

  • Temporary detours remain in place, including Park Street and Court Street, but traffic continues to move cautiously through the area.

  • Work is expected to continue through late October, weather permitting.

Community Impact

Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians are urged to follow posted signage and exercise caution in the construction zone. Officials say the updates will improve safety, reduce congestion, and modernize infrastructure at one of the city’s busiest junctions.

Once complete, the intersection should run smoother and safer for everyone, with modern signals, clearer lanes, and improved pedestrian access.
