Rock County Children’s Museum Taking Shape

ree

The future of downtown Janesville is starting to rise from the ground as construction continues on the Children’s Museum of Rock County (CMRC).

Crews have already demolished the old 1950s addition, removed hazardous materials, and are now busy laying the foundation for what will become a major destination for families in the area. With structural steel scheduled to arrive in November, the project is shifting into full build mode.

This isn’t just another building project. The CMRC has secured over $14 million in pledges and donations, showing how strongly the community has rallied behind the idea. Exhibit design and fabrication are already underway, promising a space filled with interactive learning experiences for kids of all ages.

Why It Matters for Rock County

  • Hands-On Learning: The museum will provide engaging educational opportunities that go beyond the classroom.

  • Community Growth: Projects like this strengthen Janesville’s downtown and bring families together.

  • Long-Term Investment: With an expected opening in late 2026, the museum represents a commitment to future generations.

As the steel goes up this fall, the Children’s Museum of Rock County will move one step closer to becoming a reality. For Rock County families, educators, and local leaders, this is a project worth celebrating — not just for what it is, but for what it represents: a brighter, stronger future for our community.
